Abstract
The overall goal of this project is to analyze the organization and operation of representative politics in the state of São Paulo between 1994 and 2014. The project aims at furthering an understanding of three dimensions: a) the organizational dimension, which intends to identify the organizational structure of political parties, the distribution of intraparty power, the sources of funding and of political recruitment, as well as the characteristics of party elites and members; b) the competitive dimension, whose purpose is to understand the pattern of competition in the state and the intrastate regions, identifying the bases of political forces and its electoral and organizational strategies; and c) the representative dimension, which seeks to analyze the voting patterns in the state in the time period, as well as the quality of the relationship between voters and the representation system in São Paulo.
