ESEB 2022, the sixth wave of academic post-election research carried out in Brazil, is included in Module 6 (2021-2026) of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) Project at the University of Michigan. The main objective of this module – “Representative democracy under pressure” – is to address the crisis and challenges faced by democracy from three dimensions: trust and support for the democratic system and its institutions; satisfaction with representative democratic procedures, with a focus on the representation of women and the assessment of women's role in power and support for alternative forms of government, led, for example, by business leaders or independent technicians. The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on the functioning of democracy and society, always from the perspective of citizens, are also concerns of module 6 of the CSES. Additionally, ESEB 2022 applied specific questions about the cognition of democracy, the circumstances that could justify a military coup in Brazil and opinions regarding public security issues, social programs, among other topics.
